SHAPE OF ICL3 AND BrF3 MOLECULES, SHAPE OF THE KRYPTON DIFLUORIDE KrF2:

 SHAPE OF ICL3 AND BrF3 MOLECULES:

             In ICL3 molecule, iodine is the central atom whereas in BrF3, bromine is the central atom. In both the cases, central atom have five pairs of electrons. Out of these two are lone pairs and bond pairs of electrons. As lone pair occupies more space and have generator repulsion have the lone pairs occupies the equatorial position because in this position they have bond angle 1200 and are maximum apart from each other. Whereas out of the bond pairs, one got the equatorial position and two bond pairs got axial position. Hence overall shape (Geometry) of the molecule is T shaped.

SHAPE OF THE KRYPTON DIFLUORIDE KrF2:

                         Ground state configuration of Krypton is 36Kr = 152, 252, 2p6, 352, 3p6, 3d10, 452, 4p6 on orbital hybridization of the completely filled 4p and empty orbital from 4cl. One electron is promoted from 4p to 4d, hence two unpair electron orbitals are generated which are used in making covalent bonds with two fluorine atoms. Excited state configuration of Krypton is;

The three lone pairs got the equatorial positions at an angle of 1200 to minimize the repulsion, whereas two bond pairs got the axial position at an angle of 900 from the equatorial plane because bond pairs have less repulsion. Hence overall shape of KrF2 molecule is linear.
